• 1941 All Jews over the age of six in German-occupied areas were ordered to wear a yellow Star of David on their clothing.

• 1620 The Mayflower, a three-masted carrack, set sail from Plymouth to North America, a journey lasting 66 days.

• 1952 A jet fighter aeroplane broke up and fell into the crowd at Farnborough Air Show, Hampshire, killing at least 27 people and injuring more than 60.
