• 1528 Death of Balthasar Hubmaier (b.1481 in Friedburg, Bavaria, Germany), a leader of the Austrian Anabaptists, burned at the stake as a heretic.

• 1903 Birth of (Leon) Bix Beiderbecke in Davenport, Iowa (d.1931), cornettist and composer, who was a celebrated jazz performer of the 1920s.
